General Information
The OAC is designed for children between 7-11 years old. It is open to all skill levels and abilities; the idea is for children to challenge themselves and have fun, regardless of how much experience they have with any of the activities we'll be tackling. Everyone is welcome; you don't have to be a Wingra student to adventure with us!
Our Philosophy
The Outdoor Adventure Club was founded based on the belief that spending time outside is good for kids: good for their bodies, good for their minds, good for their souls. Our goal is to get kids outside to have fun, challenge themselves, and experience the great outdoors!
OAC Guides
We love being outside and working with kids.
Kate Poulin is an outdoor enthusiast and a teacher. She has had the opportunity to live and adventure all over the country, thanks to her husband's job as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. Originally from New Hampshire, Kate lived in California and Montana before moving to Madison in August 2014. She holds a CA K-12 Social Science Teaching Credential, as well as teaching and/or substitute teaching licenses in Montana and Wisconsin. She is currently working as a substitute teacher at Wingra School and in the Madison Metropolitan School District. In her spare time, Kate loves baking, reading, and of course, spending time outside with her husband, Craig, and their German Shepherd, Shelby. Her favorite outdoor activities include hiking, snowshoeing, camping, snowboarding, kayaking, and riding her bike. She is very excited about this opportunity to share her love of the outdoors with kids!
Being outside with children keeps Weslie Cymerman happy. She feels connected to nature and loves to notice, admire, and cultivate that connection with others. Weslie is originally from Milwaukee, WI and has been a teacher at Wingra since 2009. She attended UW-Madison and earned her degree in Elementary Education with a minor is Science. She recently earned a Master's certificate from Edgewood College in Sustainability Leadership. Prior to teaching, Weslie led hiking and canoeing trips in Northern WI and swam in lakes a whole bunch. She still finds herself submerged in a local lake whenever possible. Her big dog, Mike, and her bicycle keep her outside and moving, even on the coldest days. Weslie feels grateful to be a part of the Outdoor Adventure Club and can't wait for these summer adventures to begin!
Wingra School Sky teacher Sagan Pizzingrilli will be joining Kate as a guide on the Ropes Course and Day Hike & Swim adventures!
Kate has Wilderness First Aid, Anaphylaxis, and CPR certifications. Weslie has CPR and First Aid certifications.
